This summer, CSTO partnered with PIC to host a total of 11 interns throughout the Square Tech & Media Makers internship programs. In Media Makers, PIC funded 4 interns who in addition to attending regular programming, also completed a series of “After Hours” projects. In these work blocks, interns furthered their knowledge of the topics and hard-skills learned through the Media Makers Internship.
Project : Civil Rights Movement Timeline
For project one, PIC-funded Interns spent additional time learning about the Civil Rights Movement and watched films exploring important events and cultural components that came out of that historic social movement. They then worked either in pairs or independently to create a timeline of the 10 most important historical events from the Civil Rights Movement. This helped further contextualize the movement and how current events create activism and social change.

Project : Census Webpage
To learn the basic skills of web design, interns were tasked with creating a singular webpage about the 2020 Census. They were given key information about the Census that they had to re-design into an attractive yet easily-digestible webpage that would encourage viewers to complete the 2020 Census. |
Project : Teen Program Website Update
For the final project, the PIC-funded interns learned what it was like to work as a team to develop a cohesive website and messaging. Interns were tasked with revamping the CSTO Teen Program unofficial website, which showcases projects from each cycle. Interns dove deeper into learning about Web Design and how to use sites like Weebly.com to create beautiful websites. Interns needed to work together to ensure that the information they are providing and the formatting of the page aligns with one another and that the entire site fits within an aesthetic. With the program manager acting as their client, interns faced daily status updates and weekly critiques to enhance their performance.
