The Guest speakers: Catherine T. Morris, BAMS Fest: Catherine T Morris is the founder of the Boston Arts, Music and Soul Festival, which is a musical festival aimed at uplifting and amplifying black and brown artists in the Boston area. Ms. Morris is also a Boston Foundation Neighborhood Fellow, whom has dedicated her work to creating racial equity and justice through arts, music culture and community centered work. Samantha Viotty, the Viotty Collection: Samantha Viotty works as a community-centered project designer for the Obama Foundation by day and a visual designer by night. Her visual graphic project @ViottyCollection uses images, graphics and illustrations to highlight and capture of black history, culture and people who have historically gone underrepresented. Using her background as a youth worker (formerly at CSTO), Samantha led interns in a design-thinking activity after the conclusion of her presentation. ICA Teen Program, specifically ICA youth workers Monty Alcott and Nohemi Rodriguez, led a 2 part workshop with our interns that introduced them to the visual art work of revolutionary photographers such as Latoya Ruby Fraiser and Tschabalala Self. During the first workshop, interns were introduced to artists and led through a museum education based visual analysis before working with interns to create their own pieces in the second workshop. These pieces can be viewed here. PIC Professional Development Webinars: In addition to being a funding partner, Boston’s Private Industry Council hosted a series of professional development workshops that enhanced our interns' understanding of the technology-based workforces many are interested in entering. The Media Makers program attended two of their summer workshops including: Tech In Action at WGBH-TV and Diversity inTechnology Careers. |
